The default retirement age allows employers to retire workers when they turn 65.
The High Court ruling states that companies can legally retire staff at 65 if they want to. Some organisations have already removed compulsory retirement ages because of a recognised value to retain older workers.
The case had been brought by Age Concern and Help the Aged, arguing that the compulsory retirement age contravenes EU regulations.
