To date, 36 Blue Arrow Managed Services employees – who are all contracted to work at the SDG Shaw National Distribution Centre - have gained national vocational qualifications at NVQ level 2 in Warehousing and Storage. This is the first step in a longer-term partnership designed to see Shop Direct Group’s own staff and Blue Arrow Managed Services employees complete the course throughout 2009.
Katherine Martin, aged 20 and lives in Shaw was also presented by Mike Smedley, Director Corporate Business, Sutton Coldfield College with the Most Improved Student Award. Katherine, who has worked for Blue Arrow Managed Services at SDG’s Shaw National Distribution Centre for over 2 years said “I m thrilled to win this award. I really enjoyed the training course and I’m sure it will stand me in good stead for the future.”
Steve Jeremy, Account Director, Blue Arrow Managed Services, said: “In the current economic climate, businesses are looking for higher skilled, flexible and more productive workers in order to respond quickly and effectively to workload fluctuations. As a recruitment and workforce management provider to SDG, this new initiative will improve the skills of our flexible workers. All of the workers presented with their certificates should be extremely proud of their achievement.”
The NVQ2 training programme, which takes place in the workplace, includes modules on contributing to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, contributing to keeping the workplace secure and working effectively. In addition, workshops in literacy and numeracy where held to support each individual training needs.
